Ultimate Alliance 2

Thursday, 7 August 2008

Watching the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 trailer today, I wondered only one thing: “How does Luke cage get into all of these bloody games.” The main concept for the second game seems to involve fusing two superhero’s powers together, and there’s a nice shot of the hulk doing a “fastball special” with wolverine. it’s a small trailer, but I got all rabid and fan boyish over the original Ultimate Alliance, mainly due to its inclusion of Blade and dead pool. Confirmed characters for UA2 include: Captain America, The fantastic 4, Spider man, Hulk, Daredevil, Venom, Green Goblin, Thor, Iron man, Wolverine, Storm and Luke cage. Storyline wise Dan Tanguay from Vicarious Visions says the game will start from Nick Fury's secret invasion of Latveria, home of Marvel Villain Doctor doom. More information when it surfaces.

Max Payne Trailer

Sunday, 13 July 2008

Not exactly game related, but it is a videogame movie, and this is the last chance I'll get to mention it before the E3 bomb drops tomorrow.

Now, the max Payne trailer has hit the Internet, and after watching it a few times, I'm pretty psyched about this movie.

Now, I might be unfairly biased towards this film because I loved the two Max Payne games, and hope that if the film is successful, someone will start making Max Payne 3 again, Making me very happy. Secondly, I like films with lots of explosions and shooting. Thirdly, Mark Wahlberg is in it, and in the trailer, he looks the business as max.

My only mild concern is the flying creatures that feature in the trailer, and also that they will overuse the slow motion the game is so well known for.

Oh, and erm, Nelly furtado is in it. I find it hard to take that seriously.

Bad Company

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

For our 99th post, I'm merely going to post the battlefield TV spots.

This is more of a normal trailer, it's notable for "Haven't they got guys trained for that?" "Well, yeah, but those guys are too expensive to waste."

They are frankly, amazing, I had a fair few sniggers as I realised what games they were spoofing in these following trailers.

Mocking Rainbow Six Vegas...

Mocking Metal Gear solid..

Mocking the Gears of War TV spot.

---

Pretty moving pictures aside, since playing the Beta of this game back in April, I've been well up for taking the full game for a spin, and it launches this Friday.

Since the beta, there's been a lot of talk about the "micro transactions" to buy certain guns in the game, and while i disagree with it solely on the idea that someone willing to pay shouldn't have an advantage over someone who won't, or can't, its an academic difference seeing as EA quickly removed it. However, the fuss has remained. This is a similar shit storm to the one conjured up by Oblivion's various small additions, like horse armour. And it got me thinking.

The games buisness is just that, A buisness, and however much we love to get free stuff, you have to face the fact that somewhere, somehow, someone has to get money out of this. In my opinion, Map Packs are okay, Camo packs, or character customisation packs, they are okay. But Weapons and armour? No. Too far.

Single player content is all fine. After all, they have the right to offer said items, and we have the right to turn down the items, but when those items threaten to divide the community, like Ghost Recon's map packs did, they shouldnt be allowed. Xbox live is one big community, and for developers to change fundemental aspects of this, by seperating us by money, there's a big flaw.

New Ubi Soft Project!

Wednesday, 28 May 2008

Look at the above image. If you immediately yelled "HOGS OF WAR 2" then you're incorrect, but have a gold star for effort anyway. No folks, it's official, at the Ubidays 2008 event in Paris, France, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot showed off a new trailer for the company's new project.

What new project is this?

Beyond good and evil 2

It turns out Ubi soft was listening to our prayers after all.

Interestingly the trailer has a number 1 on it, indicating more trailers highlighting on the other characters from Beyond Good and Evil. I really enjoyed this game back on the Xbox, and so I'll probably keep an eye on this as it develops, which is handy as the teaser trailer isnt giving so much away.

MGS4 Theatrical Trailer?

Tuesday, 13 May 2008

It seems metal gear has bridged the gap, and released a trailer specifically for cinema's, it even has "Action voice over man" for a voice over.

The trailer certanly makes it look very exciting.

In other news, I borrowed Viking: Battle for Asgard today, If i can break my GTA4 addiction, I might chuck in on for a few hours, see how i like it.

Gears of War 2: First in game Footage

Sunday, 11 May 2008

It looks like Gears of war, but fuck, It just seems so much more interesting. There's tons of locusts around, and theres even a bit of the video where Fenix grabs a locust and uses him as a human shield.

I hope this isnt just a video of the games biggest set piece, and that theres more like this, because that looks awesome.

Metal Gear 4

Sunday, 27 April 2008

Today I saw the latest MGS4 trailer, Even though i'm a big Metal Gear Solid fan, the hype has passed me by completely, being as its a Playstation 3 game, and I dont have nearly enough cash to shell out for a new PS3 and a copy of Metal Gear 4.

Either way, i saw the trailer:

And even though I dont have a fucking clue whats being said i figured i'd try some interpretations.

In the first twenty seconds we see what looks like Snake dying on the ground, usually not such a brilliant starting point for a game trailer, but alot of the MGS4 stuff i've seen is telling me that this is the end of solid snake as a character. Seeing as he looks dead already, this doesnt suprise me.

Then a guy i can only presume to be Ocelot shows up, and he's alot different from the last time we saw him [Chronologically] in MGS2.
Then we see some soldiers in a battlefield, and some 15 foot tall mechs that are clearly imitating Cows with the mooing sound they are making.

Around the one minute mark, Snake shows up, Very much not dead, and then we see Meryl. Now she definately doesnt look like she did in Metal Gear 1, for a start, she's not dead. And for a second, it doesnt like like she was carved out of Balsa wood.

From here on in, it gets badass. A group of soldiers start punching some other soldiers, and beating the shite out of them and then we are shown total warfare in a street. From 2 minutes, the voice stops, and the guys at Kojima studio's show what a talent they have for trailers, they managed to show Snake maybe 4 times in the whole trailer, and still make a brilliant trailer.

I'm going to start keeping an eye on this game from now, as my PS3 owning friend is going on about it, and this trailer has reminded me quite how rabid i got with excitement over Snake Eater.
